Dive Meet 101
What Your Diver Should Bring to the Dive Meet
- A towel, maybe 2 - one to dry off, maybe another to sit on. Sammy (shammy), optional
- Pre-filled water bottle
- Food/snacks. Money to buy food during the meet, if available
- Extra clothing for chilly or rainy evenings
What Meet Volunteers Should Wear to the Dive Meet
- For A Meets, NVSL strongly encourages volunteers to wear a white shirt and navy blue bottoms (shorts, skirt, pants, etc.) if volunteering as a Judge, Announcer, Table Worker, Referee, Meet Secretary, etc.
- B Meets are a more relaxed environment and do not require wearing a white shirt and navy blue bottoms.
Events
In each meet, there are four classes of competition for both boys and girls. A diver's age is determined by the diver's age as of June 1. Age groups are as follows:
- Freshman: Ages 5-10
- Juniors: Ages 11-12
- Intermediates: Ages 13-14
- Seniors: Ages 15-18
Tuckahoe Black & Gold Dive Meet
The Black & Gold meet is the Tuckahoe Flying Tigers first meet of the season to kick off dive season. This is an intrasquad (Tuckahoe-only) meet for our divers to get a feel for what a meet is like in a low pressure and fun environment. This is also a fantastic time for new dive families to volunteer and learn about the different dive meet roles.
A Meets (Competitive)
A Meets are NVSL Dive sanctioned meets typically held on Tuesday evenings. To participate in these NVSL Dive sanctioned meets, the diver must be able to legally dive in their age group's requirements:
- Freshman: 3 Dives – Forward, Backward, and one Optional dive
- Junior: 4 Dives – Forward, Backward, and two Optional dives
- Intermediate: 5 Dives – Forward, Backward, and three Optional dives
- Senior: 6 Dives – Forward, Backward, Inward, and three Optional dives
Coaches will determine when a diver can safely participate in an NVSL Dive sanctioned A Meet, which is governed by NVSL dive rules. The top three scores in each age group count toward the final meet points. Meets are scored by event (e.g., Freshman Girls) as follows: 1st place – 5 points, 2nd place – 3 points, 3rd place – 1 point. Meet results determine the standing in our NVSL Dive division.
B Meets (Developmental)
B Meets are developmental meets held on Thursday nights with a neighboring pool. B Meets give emerging divers the opportunity to participate in a team meet and show off their new and improved skills. Coach assisted dives and jumps are allowed during B meets. We try to organize 2-3 B Meets per season. B Meets are dependent on having a B Meet Coordinator.
